Three Dee Fun (TDF) from Henseleit Helicopters

Details

After introducing the TDR-II, many pilots asked for a modernized version of the original Henseleit TDR — a simple, high-performance all-round helicopter that had earned great popularity over the years. The goal was to create a new model that retained the joy and ease of flying without the need for heavy, expensive high-power systems.

Designer Jan Henseleit wanted to offer a helicopter that could perform well even with smaller, more affordable components. Instead of requiring massive motors, ESCs, and batteries, the new model would rely on lightweight but strong mechanics, achieving excellent performance at lower weight and cost.

Returning to his roots after developing extreme-performance machines like the TDR-II and TDS, Henseleit set out to design a “Volksheli” (people’s helicopter) — a fun, versatile aircraft that’s easy to handle yet capable of advanced flight and upgrades.

The result is the TDF (TDR-Fun) — a new 700-class helicopter designed for pilots who want a light, agile, and simple 3D/all-round machine with all the key features of a high-end model. With its EPO-fiber construction, the complete frame and canopy weigh only around 1,800 g. Depending on setup, the flying weight ranges from 3,650 g (with 6S–7S setup) to 4,700 g (with full 12S setup) — still under 5 kg, lighter than many 600-size helicopters.

Features:

  • Single-stage helical main gear and belt-driven tail, ensuring quiet, efficient operation and easy maintenance.
  • Proven linear control system (from the TDR-II), allowing use of either standard or midi servos, offering precise, responsive handling.
  • Simple drivetrain layout, with freewheel and tail drive directly in line with the motor shaft.
  • Familiar TDR canopy design with updated modern graphics, still interchangeable with older models.
  • Redesigned rotor head, now lighter with adjustable damping for quick tuning at the field.
  • In short, the Henseleit TDF represents a return to simplicity and flying pleasure — a lightweight, high-quality helicopter that combines the brand’s engineering excellence with affordability, flexibility, and 3D performance.
