The Skyvolt is an electric-powered sport RC plane designed by Bob Kopski and marketed by Today's Hobbies. With a wingspan of 50¼ inches (approximately 127.9 cm), it serves as a transitional model between beginner trainers and full aerobatic aircraft. Its structure is built from balsa and plywood, using traditional kit construction techniques.
The Skyvolt features a NACA 2412 airfoil for balanced performance and uses a tail-dragger landing gear with a steerable tail wheel. The aircraft is compatible with a wide range of electric motors, including brushed and brushless systems, from basic .05-size to more powerful .15-size equivalents. It was originally designed for 7 to 12 NiCd or NiMH cells but can be adapted to modern LiPo batteries.
In flight, the Skyvolt is fully aerobatic and capable of performing rolls, loops, spins, and inverted flight with stability and control. Its large control surfaces and lightweight design allow for precise maneuvering and short takeoffs, even on modest power setups.
The plane is typically configured with three to four channels—elevator, ailerons, and optionally rudder and throttle. Weighing around 48 ounces (approximately 1.36 kg), the Skyvolt is considered lightweight and agile, making it ideal for intermediate pilots looking to advance their skills with a responsive yet forgiving airframe.
